Re: Toasted wiring harness
I would surmise now knowing the temp gauge failed, that at some point, that printed circuit overheated, melted the plastic away from the metallic leads inside, and resulted in a big time short. Almost be willing to bet the green wire to the temp sender has a short to ground somewhere as well. You'll be light years ahead with the new harness. AA has a loaner program for the correct crimpers you will need if you don't own them. There are two different crimp tools you'll want to have to do the job right!

Re: Toasted wiring harness
Thanks Steve,
I have a pair of Kline's, but they are standard electrician's crimpers. I watched a video of a guy do an AA set on youtube, he had the same ones I think. I also have a soldering torch and shrink tape. Let me know if the Kline's will work and if I need anything other tools. I'll look at the green wire and let you know what I find. Thanks again, Avery |

Re: Toasted wiring harness
I actually have a set that are GM issued by Kent-Moore for doing all the Packard electrical small terminals. They work on the core and insulation crimps on single wire crimps. I bought the double wire set from AA. The only other thing I can think of would be a die grinder with a small cutting wheel. I use a 90 degree die grinder with a small wheel to open the pass-through in the firewall where the new harness will mount up. The template in the kit is excellent. You will have to open two sides slightly to accomodate the larger pass through. I rough cut it with the wheel, then use a burring bit to clean it up. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Re: Toasted wiring harness
I have a die grinder, I'll get a cutoff wheel. I really appreciate the help and I'll reach out if I run into a problem!
