Not a build thread.

Well I bought this 1960 a while back, based on a few pics the guy sent me.
It appeared good in the pics, so I had it hauled to town here. The box is real good, the hood and grille are mint. But the roof is really bad for rust. The doors were in good shape, just a few small dents.

This is a 2 year project, so I am having it done slowly. My body man says he could fix the roof, or replace it, so I started looking around. And then I ran across this beauty, a 1962 GMC SWB.

The roof is solid, has a little rust in the floor. So I am thinking of using the cab for mine, and the SWB frame and box, and sell parts I don't need.

Re: Not a build thread.

So, what would you guys do? Fix my roof, do the cab swap?
I've decided on a short wheel base truck.
I really don't want to cut my near mint fenders or fool around shortening my 60 frame.

Re: Not a build thread.

I personally don't think either of those trucks looks bad enough to sacrifice for the other. Is your roof trouble rust above the windshield or the roof itself? I've seen other members remove the roof skin and replace it from a donor cab but I'm not sure if that is your situation or not. If you really want a SWB I'd sell the other and use the money to fix up the blue one. Just my opinion though.

First dont even think about shortening the frame both are X frame trucks ... IF you want SWB then use the 62 frame and bed, cab and the 60 front wrap and doors if they are the best.... Remember if you use the GMC and dont change the dash you will have a GMC truck with a CHEVY front end..... To bad i am so far away i have a good 60/62 chevy cab

Re: Not a build thread.

The hubcaps on the blue 62 GMC are Canadian only, I believe. They are not like the American version of the same year. If you notice there's a small ring around the GMC crest that could be cut away for the protruding hubs on 4WD. I'd buy it just for the caps. My thinking on these, were the blanks that they decided to ad the GMC for the few 61-62 4wd that were built that required caps. Sought after item for the 4WD guys. Correct for Chevrolet also once the GMC is gone.

Oh and try to get the roof rack off the topper in back of the blue truck on the Dodge box. Gm style roof rack would look nice on a Burb.
