disk brake backers or not?

Those of you running disks... did you use or not use the backers?

If not... are there any real issues with dust?

Will be running the Wilwood front and back disks and really dont want to cover them up up front.... they're so nice looking I want to show them off when the hood is up at the shows.

Re: disk brake backers or not?

I take them off, cause usually they're rusted any way and rubbing against the rotor....

yes, there will be dust issues without them. If solid wheels, not a major issue. But, personally, I'd run them unless they rub against something non-stock. And then, I'd grind away where they rub before I'd toss em to the side. If they rub the rotor, they are clearly bent and should be replaced or straightened (or discarded).

I leave them on because they are there for a reason. GM engineers obviously put a great deal of thought into the design of one arguably one of the best trucks ever made. How can you see the rotors from under the hood? What other parts is your truck missing? It does still have a hood, right?

No, as a matter of fact it dont have a hood.... or fenders, or cab or bed on it. It will have inner fenders that are somewhat open on the inside, hence being able to see the suspension and brakes. But thank you for the response anyway.....

What would the type of wheel matter? They only keep crap from getting TO the rotors and wedging in the calipers... they dont keep dust from collecting on the wheels.... Just look at any car or truck that hasnt been washed in a while, the front wheels are always covered in dust even with the shields in place

Re: disk brake backers or not?

On a previous truck I had (72, which has factory front disc) when I installed a CPP 3/5 drop kit, I took the shields off because of interference with the lower control arm from the drop spindles. Never had a minutes problem and the guy that bought the truck hasn't had any issues either.
