how many circular grooves on the input shaft? 1 or 2?
1 groove = m21
2 grooves = m20
0 grooves =m22

1 groove is always an m-21, the other two switched at a certain year (not sure think it was 65 or 66) later m-20's have no grooves. somewhere i found this info, might be chevrolet by the numbers book, it tells you the best way is to count teeth on the unput gear. both of my m-20's have no grooves. Dev.
