Can someone describe to me how to downshift a 2-spd rear?

This is so sad, but I'm a young lad who grew up driving Hondas in the "big city". Farm life/trucks were not part of my childhood.

I need to learn one valuable thing with my truck: getting from 4th high into 4th low without stopping(with regard to the rear end).

I have done it a couple times, but I'm not actually sure what I'm doing and I feel nervous.

What's the trick to downshifting rears IN THE SAME GEAR. I don't want to learn split shifts yet......one type of shifting at a time! LOL

Thank you all so much!

You really only have to split shift is when your loaded. It's all about the timing, the right speed and the right rpm's. I usually just let off on the gas and shift the splitter and the push on the gas.

Easy as pie

Re: Can someone describe to me how to downshift a 2-spd rear?

I am not sure if it is the same as the older ford trucks, but we have one I drive at work and you just push the splitter down with your foot already on the fuel pedal and than release and than punch the fuel pedal down quickly. If it doesn't work the first try than just punch and release the fuel quickly again.

Now for when you do start split shifting the trick is to always go up before you go down. As in if shifting from 3 high to 4 low you shift to 4th gear and then drop down after you get it in gear. When you downshift for 4 low to 3 high than split to 4 hi first than shift to 3 hi.

Great advice guys, thank you very much! The split shifting doesn't seem that bad either.

Although some won't, I always use the Clutch when shifting the rear, whether upshifting or downshifting.
