Door panel mounting problems.

So I'll start by saying that I used the search function with every combination of words that I could think of with squat for results. Just in case this is a really obvious issue that been talked about a couple dozen times already.

I'm getting ready to rebuild the innards of the door (felts, rubbers, etc) I noticed a few screws missing from the door panels, but now that I've got the panel off I see that the PO managed to strip the heads off of four of the screws and totally knock the square nut out of one hole.

Anybody ever deal with this?

Re: Door panel mounting problems.

yes, on one truck I just didn't install the screw, but its a work truck!

on the other I welded a nut in the hole.

the 4 that are stripped , you may have to drill them out. on one truck I was able to weld a nut to the stripped part of the screw, and then unscrew it that way.

Re: Door panel mounting problems.

I had a similar problem.
I didn't have the attachment screws so I bought a new set from Totally Stainless!
One of the nuts were missing though, so I glued it back on using an automotive epoxy for fixing bumpers, and when it started to get hard enough to stay in place, I screwed the door panel onto the door to improve position of the nut until the epoxy cured.
I have had the door panels off several times since without incident!
My doors & door-panels were painted at this point, soI did't want to weld.

Re: Door panel mounting problems.

I've also used JB weld to reattach the nut.

The above seems like a very satisfactory solution. Modern epoxy should hold it in place just fine. I had the skin off my PS door so I just welded a new one into place.

Re: Door panel mounting problems.

Yep, I had to weld a couple nuts back into place on my driverside door. It isn't uncommon.
