Frame cleaning and painting

I am in the process of cleaning my frame and painting it. I am only doing a section at a time. I am starting with the under the hood section. I have out a ton of time in stripping all the old grease out go it am almost ready to start painting. I wanted to check to see if there was anything. I have stripped everything with a wire brush and wire wheel on my grinder. I have used degreaser to clean everything up as well. I will be using chasis saver paint and am having to do it with the body on. Thanks for the help.

if youre asking about cleaning the frame, the cheap oven cleaner works pretty good but wear a mask!

I found a local painter to sandblast mine.....only charged me $100. Took him less than an hour. Money very well spent.

I have done the wire wheel frame job before. I can tell you my next frame is going to sandblast and powder coat. I understand that since the body is still on, that is not an option.

I would get hold of a pressure washer if possible, if not the wire wheel will pretty much clean whatever it touches. Just know that all the rust and grease coming off of the frame is going to land on anything nearby, so cover up anything you don't want to clean later.

I also used the POR line of products. I wish I would have used a small foam cabinet roller instead of cheap paintbrushes for a better finish. The cheap paint brushes did not apply smoothly and I always find loose bristles embedded in the paint.

Yup the por15 is good stuff but it takes awhile to dry and wear gloves!!! Trust me

Thanks. I have it clean to the cable mounts. I am going to start trying to mask off stuff tomorrow or Saturday. I would like to get some before and after pictures. I have cleaned so much grease of off the frame, totally amazed. My grandfather that had the truck before me had both valve cover gaskets blown out for years and never replaced them. He just kept a case of oil in the bed and filled it up when it needed it. Thanks grandpa.

Sounds like those leaky gaskets were Grampa's version of undercoating/rust prevention.
