I wouldn't think a stock power steering pump would have enough pressure to run both power steer and a hyd winch , as usally they require some better pressure and volume , even the snow plow type pumps wont run a winch , just a thought though

I never ran a filter and never had any trouble, so once u get it cleaned up u should be good.
