It won't start !!!!

So normally I'm on here with ?s about my 71. But today I'm hoping for help with a 2003 GMC Savanna 6.0. Situations beyond my control (divorce) have left it sitting for almost 2 years. When it was parked all was good , I bought a new battery and tried to start it All I got was a little click like from a relay and nothing. I didn't hold the key in the start position just tried to click it a few more times Nothing. It's not in a place where I'm able to be often so I disconnected the brand new battery just in case there was a draw this is when I discovered the brand new battery had sustained a dead short which slightly beat up the post and tried to melt the terminal to the battery? I know this is long winded but I'm hoping that he more details given will lead to great advice as to where you guys think the problem might be. Thanx Chris

Re: It won't start !!!!

Try to clean the battery cable ends, You have to disassemble them to do this correctly.

Take an Awl/Small flat head & pry the bolts out of the rubber sleeves, The sleeves will now slip off the battery cables. Clean both cable ends & both bolts.

A bad connection will cause excessive resistance, A Starter, which can draw 250 amps can melt stuff with a bad connection.
