'BLACK' Door Handles

Anyone know of anywhere to buy 'black' door handles for a '63? (Exterior)

I've looked all over online.

If I can't find any to buy, what would be my best option in 'coating' the existing door handles black?

Thanks

How about just PlastiDip? Dirt cheap, will get the look you want, touch up easily.

PlastiDip was my first thought. However, I'm thinking with the constant use a door handle gets, it will wear off easily.

I'll give it a shot, if I can't find a better option.

Re: 'BLACK' Door Handles

Thanks man. I hate to break it to ya, but the only way for that to happen is with some paint and some patience. I put my process in my build.

Basically, the handles are pot-metal under the original chrome. I dismantled them, then used a media blaster to remove the chrome. The pot metal has a textured surface, so I used multiple layers of epoxy primer to seal the metal and level some of the surface. Then a few layers of paint, and finally satin clear to protect it from dirty hands in the summer.

Re: 'BLACK' Door Handles

I would think powder coating might hold up very well in that application.

I'd imagine you are correct, the only downside being that with powdercoat its hard to control the material thickness and the way it fills the surface. If your having someone else do it, you'd have to make sure they coat enough for the powder to self-level a bit under heat...and then you'd have to sand-back the inner area for the lock mechanism to have enough clearance to slide in-n-out.

It would hold up to the keys and chemicals (and UV, if you don't clear the painted version) better.
