Rotella T off brand

For those that have Rural Kings near them. They have the Rural King version of Rotella T 15W40 on sale right now.....2 gallon jug for $12.99. Regular price is $17.99 which I still thought was pretty good for a 2 gallon jug. Around here the sale is good for another 30 days. It's made by the same company (Warren unilube) that makes the Coastal branded oil.
The regular Rotella T is on sale too right now. One gallon jug for $12.99 which is a dollar cheaper than I have found it anywhere else.

I use rotella T, and I wish I could buy it for that! Here, a 5L jug (about 1-1/4 gallons) is $30.

Re: Rotella T off brand

Are you guys running diesel engines, or just looking for extra ZDDP? If so, I believe the new Rotella T has less than it used to have.

And regarding the cheap oil, I'd say you get what you pay for. So be wary.

Re: Rotella T off brand

Mike, I'm running two gas engines with flat tappet cams using 15w-40 rotella t. It's for the zddp. I think the grades other than 15w-40 have lower zddp. The cams are holding up fine, so I'm happy. And this oil is still cheaper then racing or special oils made for flat tappet cams.

Re: Rotella T off brand

Found this. Supposedly it's a quote from Shell:

There is approximately 1200 parts per million ZDDP in Rotella T 15W-40,
which is 50% higher than is allowed in Starburst motor oils (API
SN/GF-5). Thank you for your interest in Shell products.

That 1200 ppm is apparently an average of P and Zn.

Just for comparison, Mobil 1 "High Mileage" synthetic oils have 1000 ppm P/1100 ppm Zn, and their 15W50 weight has 1200/1300.

Most Mobil 1 oils cost $27 for a 5 qt jug at Wal-Mart. It's what I use except for break-in.

That's not to say Rotella T doesn't work fine.

Re: Rotella T off brand

Rotella has a $5 rebate going on now, FYI. I use the T6 in my ATV's.
