p/s mounting w/ headers....how to?
I have a '71 c10 that i drag race exclusivley that has oem p/s with long water pump brackets, trying to figure out how to mount the pump. I have the oem cradle the pump sits in and the slotted adjuster bracket with three holes that mounts to the front of the pump, but dont have the one piece that attaches to the exhaust manifold bolt. Dont even know if it would help if i had it because im running long tube headers? Anyone else run into this problem or know how to remedy it?

Re: p/s mounting w/ headers....how to?
Not for sure if it matters on the Long Water pump, but my bracket runs over to the Motor mount not the header, maybe you can find one of those , I run a short water pump,
I do not know if there are two different brackets for a LWP or SWP??

Or, you could go to manual steering since you just go in a straight line and pick up a few more horses...

Thought about that to hamjet but these trucks are hard as hell to turn w/ no P/S, all that weight i guess.

Re: p/s mounting w/ headers....how to?
They are not really that bad to stear if you have manual steering. If you have a power steering gear and the pump isn't working, then, yes, any vehicle is hard to turn. with the correct manual gear box, they aren't that bad though. Would be also be easier to steer in the pits and returning to a pit if the motor was at a low idle or not running.

Re: p/s mounting w/ headers....how to?
One could easily fab a bracket that went from motor mount to stud in the back of the pump out of ½" steel tubing. The rear stud on mine is far away from the headers.
The SWP mount I have doesn't have a rear mount. It is a cradle type. Sorry I don't have a better pic.

Re: p/s mounting w/ headers....how to?
BrianG I didnt realize that a manual box would be easier to turn than a power unit thats not working. I wounder what all a person would have to change to utilize a manual box.....linkages and otherwise?
