Lowering shocks on an '81 C-10 (2" lowered)
Lowered the front of my truck 5" overall. 3" with drop spindles and 2" drop springs, shortening the travel basically 2".
So now I need to get some shorter shocks. What have you used to give better ride quality and have no issues with bottoming out on the travel. |

Theoretically, if you don't trim the bump stops, you aren't compressing the shocks any further than they would have before the springs, so I don't think it would matter.
I ran 3" spindles and stock 1/2-ton coils with 3/4 of a coil removed, and then switched to 1-ton coils with 1 coil removed, and neither setup had a problem with stock-length shocks with factory bumpstops.

When buying front shocks don't count the 3" for the spindle. You only need a shock for the 2" drop. You will need to trim bump stops but leave about 3/4"-1" to absorb the movement. You should have a good ride from this

Instead of trimming the bumpstops - drill a series of holes in them. This softens them, which means you will contact them at bump, but they "firm up" a bit more progressively, allowing you to ride lower and still ride nice (less harsh bottoming).
