So I wrecked my truck:(

So Friday afternoon a van desided she was going to pull out in front of me... didn't do much to the truck but I need a new bumper. Where have you guys gotten yours from as replacements and which ones turn out best? Don't want the chrome pealing off in awhile. Same goes for rear bumpers as well? And what's everyone's favorite up grade for a 4wd?

That bumper really doesn't look all that bad, kinda looks like you could just polish it right back up.

That van got eaten though, goes to show our 80s Trucks can take a hit well.

I have never heard good long term reports on aftermarket bumpers. I would have a bumper shop straighten your existing bumper/rechrome as necessary. Expect $300-$400 cost. More if you want "show quality" chrome. Or, get a used no hit bumper and have it rechromed.

It's tough to tell by looking at the picture, but if the top of the bumper didn't kink (as these trucks tend to) a good body guy should be able to pull it back in place. If you decide to go aftermarket Keystone does warrantee bumpers. At least for shops they do. I just checked and list is $296.00 for the platinum series. (their best)

Just an FYI:
When I was doing research to buy a create engine or rebuild my existing 350 it came to my attention that some of the create engines require that a certified mechanic install the engine otherwise the warranty is void. Needless to say I found a local build to redo my complete engine (350HP/400TQ) with a 2yr warranty for about the same money.
Just make sure to read ALL the small print on those create engines. Just my 2 cents.

Re: So I wrecked my truck:

Okay thank you for letting me know about this. I think I will just pull it back. I need to do the steering box than save up and get a engine. I want above a basic engine as I have that now but I still have to drive it eeveryday so I need something street able. And not over 3000

Re: So I wrecked my truck:(

If you don't have a bumper rechrome shop in your area I would take some good pics of your damaged bumper and send them to a bumper rechrome shop. I would check Hemmings for rechrome shops. I would be careful about having a body shop re-straighten it - this is a special skill. As I understand the process, there is no special machine for this - it is just a matter of using hand tools and restraints to get it back in shape.

Re: So I wrecked my truck:(

The poster has stated he needs a steering box and motor. If the original bumper has no chrome chips it just seems like fixing the bumper and spending ins. check on more pressing matters makes more sense. After doing body work for 42 years I know if it was my truck I would be repairing it. This rear bumper on my 98 was bent in and twisted when I got it and it came back with a gentle pull and twist with a bar. I did repaint it as it was rusty and I added the lights.
