X - Member Hardware size?

Hey guys, are the bolts for the Engine x-member / stands and transmission x-member 3/8" or 7/16" ? I threw mine out months ago now I can't remember when I'm putting it back together. Thanks.

Hey, hey. Yeah thanks. I did that. They are under 7/16 a bit. Around .410 but I thought maybe that was from the powder coating.

Re: X - Member Hardware size?

I helped a buddy install a ramjet 350 in his 68. He was trying to install the engine to the mounts with the 7/16 bolts that the previous owner used on the old 350. He was wresting with it and had removed the bolts holding the frame stands in.

I told him to use 3/8" bolts, since all of the truck I had worked on parted/ otherwise all used that size. He argued that it had 7/16" when he took it apart. I told him to keep wrestling if he wanted, but not me.

He finally gave in and went and bought grade 8 3/8" and had no trouble.

The issue is, a little room is needed for adjustability. If you try and use 7/16" you lose that adjustability. This is the same reason why if you have multiple fasteners in something, you leave them all loose until you get all of the fasteners in place.

Re: X - Member Hardware size?

Thanks everyone. 3/8 worked great. I used grade 8 not sure if it was really required.
