Oil Capacity GMC 270?
My dipstick dosen't seem to give an accurate read and the manual says fill it to full. Curious a 270 being a "Big 6" how many quarts of oil is recommended for an oil change?

I found it looks like 8 quarts for 6 cly 5 for 8 cyl.

Hmmm, fill it until its full ....
I had a customer drive in with smoke pouring out of everywhere. She asked for oil and I asked "Have you checked the dip stick ?" She said "Whats, a dip stick ?" She would just look in the oil fill hole in the valve cover and keep pouring in oil until she could see it. Short story I drained 30 quarts out of her 230 cu.in. Chevy 6. DOH ! And showed her how to use the dip stick.

Wow. Now thats a new one. When I bought my rig it didn't have a dipstick so purchased one out of a 248 so lil weary of accuracy.

Sorry meant manual indicates fill until the full line on the dipstick.

30 quarts? Geesh. I used to work in a small repair shop and I've seen some crazy stuff too.
I'm not discounting your story, but I don't see how the engine would even turn over with 30 quarts in it. I would think it would hydro-lock. |
