Old body style 99 c1500 steering damper?

I see in the Haynes manual that the c1500 5.7l shows a steering damper shock but mine does not have one. Is this a aftermarket add-on? I see the GMC version has one as stock it looks like. Should I add one if I can? Kinda confusing too me why some did and some don't.

Thanks

Re: Old body style 99 c1500 steering damper?

I'm not sure I have seen a steering damper on any 2wd 1500 truck. As tire size goes up....The more beneficial a damper is.

The original damper on my 2500HD was completely worn out, Replaced it with a Bilstein 5100. I didn't notice a bit of difference.
