underbed tanks and carbureted engines...

Are any of you running an underbed tank with a carbureted motor? If so does the mechanical pump have enough umph to pull the fuel all the way from the rear or do I need to install an electric pump to take up the slack?

My '64 Caddy was mechanical & gas tank 18' away haha They can pull it on a truck just fine. You can run electric though if wanted or needed.

There's no reason a stock mechanical pump wouldn't work with an under bed tank. I've had bad luck with electric pumps, and would recommend using a mechanical pump for durability.
I can't remember the last time a car of mine quit and the problem wasn't the electric fuel pump...

As everyone else has stated, MANY 50's cars up through introduction of electric fuel pumps have a fuel tank in the rear and a mechanical fuel pump and they're still kickin'!

The same model Panel and Suburbans use the same pump as the trucks. I have moved my tank to the back oon my SWB and no issues.

These trucks had optional factory under bed aux tanks when new...of course it will work

Just installed my new Boyd tank, all I did was hooked my hand vacuum pump and pulled fuel up to the fuel pump. Fired right up and works fine. 250 six cylinder with mechanical fuel pump. I ran 3/8" brake line for fuel line and reduced it down to 5/16" to the pump.

All Blazers and Suburbans were set up that way. No problem getting gas up to the pump.

I am running under bed aluminum fuel cell with Holley carb and Holley mechanical fuel pump. No problems whatsoever.
