That cam should sound pretty nice but your gonna need a 2800-3000rpm convertor and a set of 3.73:1 gears to be able to leave the line.

Re: Cam choice

I think you have too much cam for your converter and gears.

That's a 3000-7000 power range cam

With those tall tires I would go with a milder cam or drop to 4.11 or 4.33 and move to a 3000 converter, that's a fair amount of weight your trying to move.

There's a lot of other variables such as ignition, timing, carb, exhaust

JMO

Good luck,Bud

Re: Cam choice

bud 56 , you are correct on cam,
Im gonna try a diff carb, have not had much good feed back on the demon carb, ive always run quads or holleys, was told a 750 demon flowed more like a 850 , maybe it to much, hate to tear a motor apart for a carb fix, thanks

Re: Cam choice

I have a 355 in my 1964. Xtreme Comp Cams 286 duration and about 485 lift. Was running a 750 Edelbrock carb originally but it was too much and switched to a 650. Stock heads from the 283 that came out of the truck. 2.5" headers and exhaust. 5-speed manual tranny with 3.73 gears. Sounds good. Runs good. Launches like a bat out of hell.

Before you waste your time changing the carb, what is your timing curve like?
What's initial?
How much in the mechanical?
Vac advance, how much and which port?

Re: Cam choice

So you got 24 in your dizzy. And likely a lazy curve.
You need 16 to 18 initial.
Limit your dizzy to 16.
Limit your vac advance to 12.
That'll wake it up.

Re: Cam choice

The other thing that is hurting your engine's low end torque output is those heads. A head with 215cc intake ports is way too big for a streetable 355.
