Stock 72 throttle cable lengths?

Are stock 72 throttle cables different lengths....small block, big block, 4x4 etc?
I installed the 72 pedal adapter in my 70 big block and as you can see in the pic mine is a bit too long ...measures 10 1/4" from the firewall to the carb bracket attachment. I could use one about 1/2" shorter. Thought I would see whats available from the factory before I start hacking on this one.
Mine is from a small block, hopefully a stock big block is shorter. And I don't want an aftermarket setup if I can help it.
Thanks

Re: Stock 72 throttle cable lengths?

After further review it appears the small and big block cables are the same and the 4x4 cable is shorter.....can anyone tell me how long a 4x4 one is from the firewall to where it attaches to the carb bracket...

Re: Stock 72 throttle cable lengths?

From the looks of your install, that's as good as it gets unless you do something custom. The 4x4 one is going to be shorter because of the 2" set-back on 4x4's. I'm guessing 2" shorter (i.e. too short for 2wd) but I'm not 100% sure.

I recently replaced mine with one from O'Rileys for a later model truck. It works fine but it's probably 4+ in too long. It snakes around a bit and probably would bind if it weren't for the teflon coating inside. I wish it looked as good as yours.

You might try to twist it a little to get the cable to exit straight out the back of the carb bracket and curve the opposite direction.

Re: Stock 72 throttle cable lengths?

Thanks Stomper, thats about what I thought. I have a spare to play with so I think I'll cut 1/2" out of the sleeve and shorten the cable at the pedal and see how that works. It functions good like it is I just don't like it.

Re: Stock 72 throttle cable lengths?

I'm curious as well. Some time back i saw someone shorten a throttle cable. May have been in a video or one of the car show builds. They cut the cable housing an inch or so from one end then removed the rest from the end part and put it back together. I think they used split shot to crimp on the cable at the pedal end.

Re: Stock 72 throttle cable lengths?

That was actually 3 years ago and I did shorten it like Boog said, cut the plastic cable sleeve down and re-crimped the keeper at the pedal.

Re: Stock 72 throttle cable lengths?

I knew I had seen it somewhere Reno. You were just tightening up under the hood right?
What about a cable from Lokar or someone like that. No it's not original but if no one is reproducing our cables that is an option.
