Re: Need help on Repair shop issue (legal matter)
A stock 3 speed (Muncie MC318) go for around $100 on the classifieds and craigslist all the time. A stock clutch kit shouldn't be more than $125 for that engine/trans.

Re: Need help on Repair shop issue (legal matter)
Doesn't sound right?
I just got ripped of and now stuck with a truck without a tranny. As mentioned, I'd rather keep it if it's going to be reasonable in expense. If not, I will be stuck with a truck that is no use. I'll let the law decide in regards of my claim. I have enough evidence to support it. Picture, Video and text communication. My current situation is very depressing as I just got the truck not too long ago. A simple work needed turned out to be a disaster. Please don'take it sound like I'm scamming anyone cause I'm not. |

Re: Need help on Repair shop issue (legal matter)
I don't know anything about engine. When the transmission and the rest of the part were given back, I will have no clue if it's correct or not. The towing driver and law enforcement was there to assist me but due to the current situation I did not bother to ask. At the time, my priority was to take the truck to another shop.
I did however video taped everything using my phone so hopefully that would be good to the court. |

Re: Need help on Repair shop issue (legal matter)
Okay, a few things:
Welcome to the forum. Some shops DO ask for a down payment before repairs. It all depends on what they think your truck is worth. Example: If you brought in a truck worth $500 and ask for work done that will require $1,000 in parts, I'm pretty sure ANY shop will want money upfront. Sorry to be someone else asking for money upfront, but, to sell items here you'll need to subscribe first info here.... Please note that you must be a supporting member to post classified items. This includes but is not limited to What Its Worth, Want To Buy, Want To Trade, and For Sale. Please consider supporting the forum by subscribing. Further information on the subscription levels available are located here If you need any further assistance with that please contact any Admin for help.

Re: Need help on Repair shop issue (legal matter)
mlibre10, I agree this sounds a little crazy. Not questioning you at all. I have just never heard anything like this before. Your post has intrigued me!
For the record this is my sons forum account. I jump on here from time to time to check on what he post's. always a good idea to watch 16 year old boys on the internet. Hello my name is Dave. John's dad. Can you post some pictures of the trans (and all parts) you received back from the first shop. Some really smart guys on this forum and they might be able to tell if it is the correct trans. Also I did not see where anyone has asked the expertise of the second shop. Or you mentioning your confidence in the second shop!! They may be mistaken on the fitment of the trans. Not every shop can handle 1962 Chevy Trucks! What are the names of the shops? Someone on the forum may know them and can give advice?? I have a shop in DE. Older vehicles are not our main business, but we have been known to play with them! I see you are in DC - This should be about 2 hours away - I know it would be a long tow... I offer to you: I will put the trans back together in the truck for you at no charge anytime. You supply ALL the "correct" parts. I get it, you have no idea if you have the correct parts or not. (Please send as many pictures as you can) If the trans you have now is not correct and you do not have all the correct parts, (I am not sure if the trans my son pulled out of his 62 would be the "same" as the trans that should be in your truck). But if it is and you need his old trans, You can have it and all related parts that he has not lost at no charge. It's a 3 speed that was behind a 283 out of his 62. Or if you would like the trans and related parts, feel free to come pick them up and have the second shop install them for you. For the record my shop (we see over 300 cars a week) has never charged a customer before we finished the work to there complete satisfaction. Feel free to message me directly on the forum. |

I would jump on Dave's offer faster then a fly on .... well you know what. And pictures of the parts would make it easier.

Re: Need help on Repair shop issue (legal matter)
63-c10 thanks, My son has enjoyed reading and learning from the guys on this forum.
I figured time to give a little back, mlibre10 sounds like he could use some help. And who knows John might like to take a break from his truck. Which by the way, does not look good to be finished by the time he can drive. |

Re: Need help on Repair shop issue (legal matter)
I know the situation sucks but I hope you're taking this opportunity to educate yourself on the ins and outs of your truck. The more you know the less likely some scumbag mechanic is going to mess with you. Learn it, live it, love it...

Re: Need help on Repair shop issue (legal matter)
I think you may have overreacted from the beginning and it caused the situation to spiral out of control. Its a truck that has been getting rained on for 50 years, it would have been fine. Suing for emotional distress, c'mon, put more effort into learning how to do things yourself and less into relying on others and you could avoid situations like this.

I work at a lift kit shop in SLC, and we work on people's Jeeps and trucks and cars. If we get a rusted old Blazer that's worth LESS than the lift kit we are installing on it, WE TREAT IT THE SAME AS IF IT WAS A FRESH OFF THE SHOWROOM DODGE RAM 3500. It's about respect for the person's property. So what if your car has been rained on for 50 years? What If you decided you don't want any more rain on it? There are plenty of people who decided to protect their cars from the elements. It's THEIR choice. If this had been my truck, I certainly would have asked the shop to do the same thing. I mean, c'mon. How hard is it to roll up a window? Have you ever had to deal with wet interior after rain because you forgot to roll up your window all the way? It sucks. For a mechanic to be upset to have to do this and blatantly disregard the customer's simple request is very unprofessional on his part. We also don't know how old Mlibre is, and may not have been able to do the work himself due to health or time restraints. Never judge, and keep an open mind is all.

Re: Need help on Repair shop issue (legal matter)
Sorry for the way things went.
My opinion is if you have no clue about old vehicles, you shouldn't own one (unless you're rich). This is the result. The OP has attempted at least one legal action that will most likely be a waste of time for all involved. That is there's no way to prove bad intent. I spent a lot of my younger days with oil and gear lube (no way to forget that smell) in my hair fixing my and my friends good and bad cars. The bad ones teach more. The point is fixing a wide variety of junk cars on the side of the road teaches you stuff. The thread subject tells the tale--not looking for a mechanical solution, but a legal solution. |

Re: Need help on Repair shop issue (legal matter)
I find it unsettling that the OP had said the truck was returned to him with the wrong trans and parts, yet in his ad he just states that it is only disassembled and needs someone to put it back together. Something doesn't smell right.
