so when i bought the truck the guy told me it was a 5.7 350. i check the casting number for the year and its really a 400 from a 70-73 B or G Body. the heads are 400 heads from 70-73 also. I'm gonna assume the heads are the origonal for that engine. what does the casting marks on the heads mean? i have this mark on my heads

Don't know about the head markings but you need to replace that glass fuel filter with a metal one. That's an engine compartment fire waiting to happen.

i got the glass one so i can see inside of it. i have it zip tied away from stuff so it doesn't hit anything and break. i have letter I on this chart but i don't know what that means. anybody?

x2 on the glass filter, some are china junk, and the rest are still glass..

get the casting numbers off both the heads, its under the valve covers..
looks like they may not be a matching set..
not all heads are covered by the marks chart..

Main problem with those type filters is leaking doughnut rings at the ends. Especially with ethanol gas today.

And for future reference ... easy way to I.D. a 400 is three freeze plugs per side. The smaller ones only have two.

Large triangle over rectangle ("crown") c/n 882. Large chamber (76 cc nominal) hardened exhaust valve seats, compromised intake port ( 1971-'76 350/400cid). One of the most common smog heads, performance use is limited...

Pull the valve covers and get the numbers from the inside. Your pictures show two different style of heads on that motor.

i pulled the cover on the passenger side and got that it was a 70-73 400 head. haven't done the driver side yet.
