Help
I jacked up the 67 and noticed a line worn on the drive shaft from the driveshaft loop. The bolt heads were also worn a bit from rubbing. The driveshaft is right in the center of the loop and not sure what is causing this, could it be a motor mount? I have stock ones, maybe I should go with the solid steel ones,I am at a loss any help would be great. Truck has a 427 w/auto, 3500 stall 486 gear and runs low 12s at 110 with a 1.7 60ft.

Re: Help
Even if not the problem, you may want to get a set of poly motor mounts and a poly trans mount anyway, easier on stuff than solid and 10x stronger than stock. I have a set kicking around somewhere I'm not using now that I went to a engine plate.
Can you see on the loop if it's rubbing the sides or top/bottom?

Re: Help
Ditto
Look at the loop and see where it's rubbing. That much side to side movement sounds more like a failed trans mount (missing bolts) rather than motor mounts.

Re: Help
Centered side to side? What about top to bottom?
Could it be rubbing under hard launch from squatting?

Re: Help
its centered both side to side and top to bottom, not a lot of clearance from bolt heads to driveshaft,(rubbing on the bolt heads from the drive shaft loop has even rubbed on the balance washer they welded on at the driveline shop)) may go with a dom shaft with a 3 in dia instead of the steel one (3 1/2) I have now , may solve part of the problem.71 I am interested in your poly mounts, message me with more details please

Re: Help
1 piece or 2 piece shaft? Is the truck lowered? Pictures would be a huge help.
When I lowered my 67 I had to notch the top of the loop to clear the driveshaft. It only rubbed in the last inch or 2 of travel. |

Re: Help
its a one piece its lowered 2 1/2 inches in front/4 inches in back, its rubbing on the bolt heads of the brackets. The shaft is a 3 1/2 inch am going to go to a 3 inch DOM so that should add some clearance. Thinking the engine mount may be shot from the torque on a stock 40 yr old motor mount. will probably go with the Energy Suspension ones.the transmission/driveshaft is out of the truck right now.

Re: Help
Thanks for all the help, found the problem.I took the engine out last weekend and was looking at the stock mounts, and where the rubber insert goes between the clam shells one was higher than the other. I took a hammer and tapped on it and it would move up and down.Ordered new Moroso engine mounts today and a new poly trans mount (just in case the other was bad, looked ok, but not taking any chances)
