Give me the gears...

Alright currently running 373's but leaning towards 410's. I'm running a 383 stroker and don't really highway drive. Thoughts?

Just wondering who's running what and recommendations please.

Re: Give me the gears...

I personally and based on my experience would not run a 4.10 without an overdrive trans. My current set up is 4.11 with OD and sort of wish I had gone with 3.89, but I do have 505 CID to move the heap.

Re: Give me the gears...

Depends greatly on your rear tire size as well. I'm a drag racer and I hate my 4.10's with 255/60r15's in my street/strip car. It lifts the front wheels about 5 inches in the air and goes like hell, but sucks if I have to go more than 55 for a few miles. The added rpm heats the oil rapidly as well. Your stroker should be a torque monster and blow the tires off at will as is. So long story short, unless you're running a very tall rear tire, I'd stick with 3.73's.

i have to ask this too

can't imagine why unless your after bragging rights for the least gas mileage
if you ever want to go to a show you'll think twice because of the cost of gas

Re: Give me the gears...

I'm happy with the 373's but wondered if I am missing out on more grunt. Just a weekend toy so highways are next to none. The boys at the shop are trying to convince me given my use but I'm more than reluctant to make the swap. I kept asking myself the same thing "why".

Think I best leave it as is.

I'm going from a 3.73 to a 3.42 with a 200-R4 OD trans.

Re: Give me the gears...

You should have plenty of grunt with a 383 and 3:73s.

Re: Give me the gears...

Make sure your ignition is in proper tune and your carb is also, there is a lot of horsepower in timing and jetting!

Re: Give me the gears...

Richmond has this gear calculator.

http://www.richmondgear.com/index.ph...ion-calculator

Randy's Ring has this one.

http://www.ringpinion.com/Calculators/Calc_RPM.aspx

And this one from Coast Drive line.

You can play around with the gear ratios using know variables from your truck. I have used the old Richmond (Coast Drive Line) one before.
