Interior color

I'm torn on the interior color for my build. The truck is going to be orange and white similar to the pic below. Originally I was gonna do tan. Then I thought gray. Now I'm thinking black. With black I wouldn't have to worry about color shade difference in dash vs door panels vs seats vs steering wheel etc. What's y'all's opinion? Would black look out of place? I know everything can be "painted" if I go tan or gray but how well does it hold up?

Re: Interior color

Seems like tan is getting used more
It helps with the summer heat too.
It gets my vote cause it's grown more on me since getting a tan soft top.

Re: Interior color

Black is my favorite interior color but when its used with yellow or orange it looks bumble bee-ish or Halloween-ish imho. Tan would definately match best with gray as my second choice.

Re: Interior color

I want to use these seats. Do you think the dash, door panels, console and trim can all be painted and/or dyed to match and will it hold up?

Re: Interior color

I personally would go with the tan color. Reason why, though black of anything looks great when it's clean, it's almost impossible to keep it clean, shows every speck of dirt. So, unless you're building a trailer queen, tan. Gray, though looks good when new, starts to look dingy after a while, even if you stay on it.

You could always go full customer using both gray/black which would look good, just make sure you go with a gray carpet, won't show the dirt as much.

So unless you are a neat freak, Tan. Or a black/gray combo.

My .02 cents, since you asked.

Re: Interior color

That's why I asked. I want opinions. I know people always say "it's your truck, do what you like" but I want opinions. I don't want it to look out of place.

Re: Interior color

I went with black for your poll. Black goes with everything, does not show dirt, always looks good, cleans up nice, and matching trim parts is never an issue. Honestly I am not a lover of browns on my vehicles so tan would not work for me personally. Also I think tan is one of the harder colors to match up all the parts. Grey is OK. My 77 came with red interior originally but the original owner changed it to grey for some reason. Hell he did spec out and order the truck with red. At first I liked the grey but as I drive and own mine, the grey has lost its appeal to me. I will change it to black as my budget allows. I really wanted to go back to red but my seats were not offered in red.

Black. Or tan with orange accents.

Or you could use your accent color as your thread

Except the seats are already upholstered when I buy them.

Seats look nice and comfy
In my case I only painted the console, it's very close, but was tan to start with. after a while , it's not really noticed

Re: Interior color

How well does SEM work? My dash is already black. Console only comes in black. And the door panels do not come in that shade of tan. Does it bond well to textured surfaces?

Re: Interior color

i used the SEM product in my truck on the door panels, dash pad, seat belt covers, as well as other misc trim in the truck (iirc i used light buckskin). i also used their recommended prep spray. so far i am impressed with how well it bonds and holds. texture is awesome, didnt hide any of the grain. good prep is critical. to me its the best, easiest option for changing colors aside from wrapping or stumbling upon a good used part in the right color. the vinyl parts seems to be a lot better at preventing the inevitable scratches here and there.

Re: Interior color

SEM's stuff is great. I love how easily it covers & retains the correct texture on the interior panels. Like CJ said above prep is critical. Clean the pieces several times before painting... I always clean them with TSP cleaner. I always spray the pieces with adhesion promoter before spraying on the color too.

Re: Interior color

Where is this seat available from, looks good, I'm having the same issue on color... Would love tan, but none of it matches. Black is usually black, but hot in the summer... Lol

Re: Interior color

Procar seats. Jegs and summit sell them. I'm sure many other places online. They sell the brackets for our trucks too.
