wet noodle dash pads!
I ordered a new dash pad for my 69 project from a site vender earlier this year. It came from dashes direct. I'm not really very happy with it, the grain pattern is not as deep as original, the color seems a bit light, and it is about as limp as a wet noodle. from the inside, it doesn't look too bad besides the pattern and color, which I can live with. You do see a couple of rather deep drips next too where the bolts studs are. it isn't too tight and I've tried installing the nuts extra loose. It is actually right next to the studs where the problems lie. Looking from the outside in though.... Wave city! This unit does not appear to have a fiberglass or steel backing. This seems like the typical one sold by most places. I was looking on Classic Muscle's website and they sell theirs for significantly more. Almost twice as much actually. However, the color looks much more what I thought saddle would look like. Just wondering if anyone has bought a dash pad from classic muscle and what did they experience. If not any tips for making this floppy thing sit flat.

The originals have the metal insert. I can't believe any of the board vendors would sell the ones with no reinforcement. I always ask before I order one. I don't know if it would be cost effective to return them but that would certainly send a message to the vendors. I would at least call them and let them know I was not happy... Just my 2¢ worth. Why is it that we can make aftermarket heads that kick butt but a dash pad cant be had that is worth a darn? Dumb Question I guess.
I got one from Brothers I think and it has one little wave on the passenger side so I don't look over there. Still better than nothing.

Most of the rubber or plastic repo parts are vastly inferior (CRAP) compared to original factory !!! The new age rubber/plastic formula is Eco friendly thus will break down quickly. I recently sold a 68 C-10 the tan dash pad was perfect, not a crack at all ? It sat outside its whole life. I wish now I had removed it before I let it get away.......

I got one from LMC for my 72 and it's crap too! Wavy in the center, not too pleased with it.

Mine came from LMC, the quality is OK, but the color (blue) is completely different. I'm redying it right away, but it's annoying that I have to.

Is it possible this is a cover to go over an original inner structure? That wouldn't excuse the other issues with it though. Sorry to hear.

Here are a few from inside but not the greatest pictures.
I've never have focused on the dash cover. I bought the material and just layed it out flat and hot glued it to the back side of the old dash. Then when you fasten it down it holds it in place well. I wiped the old cover off good and just pulled it tight. I trimed off the old cover where it had cracked and smoothed it out.    Here is a video I did yesterday.
