What 60-66 models came with passenger side alternators

Need to order the final harness for my 63 sb step side BBC swap. I'm using a passenger side alternator and I know that most of the trucks came with driver side alternators. Trying to keep wiring to plug and play and I know there were some trucks that had pass side alternators, which would make wiring much easier. I know that I can use my existing harness and lengthen the wiring, but I'd rather use another factory style harness if possible. Thanks for any help.

Truck still retains the external regulator.

I believe the GMC v6's were pass side.......but were the GMC's external regulators on the driver side or passenger side?

really? ive never seen a pass side one ever. no need for it really. Maybe the big bolts then? got some pics?

GMC externial regulators were on passenger side (at least on my '66)

Ive seen quite a few GMC's that have the pass side mounts. Ill dig up some pics. I'm running a LWP set up on my 427, hence the pass side mount.

GMC V6 alternator is top of engine passenger side with regulator just above it on the inner fender.

I've used reproduction wiring harnesses from M&H Electrical on both my 64C10 and my 69 Chevelle. Their products are pricey, but absolutely top notch. They also offer custom modifications, like internally regulated alternator, electric choke, HEI distributor, blade-type fuses, etc. I bet they could build a harness for your drivers side alternator. They have an online catalog, and their tech people are knowledgeable and easy to get ahold of on the phone.

So....so far no factory 60-66 chevy pass side alternators it seems. Might just be easier to modify the stock harness to accommodate the pass side mount.

If I go the GMC harness route, the regulator would need moved which is more work and I actually like the Chevy placement better on the radiator support.

I'll wait and see what else pops up here 1st. Thanks to all that have responded so far!!

Sorta off-topic but on rear drive platforms you will usually find the AC on passenger side, power steering on driver side, and alternator shoved where-ever it will fit. If you must put it on the driver side there may be a way to make it happen using some creative bracket work?

Brackets aren't an issue. I already have it mounted.

There were no '60-'66 trucks with a V8 or I6 and a passenger side alternator. They all had short water pumps with a drivers side alternator. The long water pumps and passenger side alternators didn't happen until '69 in the cars and '73 for the trucks.

OK, Thanks Captainfab....kind of what I thought, but figured it was worth a shot.....hey, you never know unless you ask. I think at this point I'll just have to unwrap the factory harness and add some longer wires to the alternator.

Just a follow up on this and to share the info with everyone else in case anyone else runs into the same issue.

I contacted American Autowires who built my forward harness in 2009. I have sent the harness back to them to make the appropriate corrections to the harness so I can hook up the passenger side external alternator.

They do sell correct harness's for the passenger side alternators in both internal and external regulated though, although not listed on their website.

My 1960 GMC v-6 305 has the alternator on the passenger side as well as the regulator on the passenger side inner fender.

Thanks AngryPirate for the input on your passenger side alternator. Was just updating the thread.....someone else at some point will do a conversion or have a factory application that will need a passenger side alternator harness and just want to share at least the one place I found that has them. They will modify my harness and it'll keep the horn, horn relay and regulator in stock position, just modifying the length on the alternator lines.

I have to give 2 thumbs up to American Autowire also....they suggested sending the harness back as opposed to purchasing a new one. Much appreciated and a good cost saver.
