k5 rocker fitment issues
Im trying to fit the passenger side rocker on my 70 k5. The issue I am having is that the rear portion sits way too high and is too far in. The front portion wraps over the edge of the rocker box on the very bottom edge but the rear is way high at the rocker box area and bed side area. If I move it out in the rear to where it should sit to match the front of the bed side there is a hell of a gap. I wish I could attach pics but cant seem on my phone. Anybody have one this far off? I have a keyparts and a tri plus rocker, both are about the same.

Re: k5 rocker fitment issues
I'm at the same point as you on my rocker replacement. If you could somehow post a pic, it will greatly help in finding what's wrong.

Re: k5 rocker fitment issues
Looks like you need to jack up the rocker box.

Re: k5 rocker fitment issues
Rocker box is original and solid, Im not gonna mess with that. Ill have to see if I can spread the rocker panel a bit. I wish I had a nos one to fit just to see if it would fit. If so, Id buy nos.

Re: k5 rocker fitment issues
Looks to me like the rocker box is sagging also. Put a straight edge along the bottom and see how true it is. In the pic (could be the curvature of the lens), it looks like it's not flat along the bottom flange where it mates up to the outer rocker panel.

Re: k5 rocker fitment issues
Rocker box is straight, im thinking its a combo of the repop inner rocker and outer rocker. Inner rocker must have been welded in slightly high in the rear but I matched it with all lines. Looks like Ill have to cut and tweek the outer rocker.

Re: k5 rocker fitment issues
In your first pic you can see a 90 degree lip on the bottom of the bedside. The lip of the rocker box, should be no lower than the bottom of that lip. This stuff moves around a lot when cut apart.

Re: k5 rocker fitment issues
In that case I may get a piece of wood and a jack and slowly see what happens. Thanks

Re: k5 rocker fitment issues
Ok, I cut the welds along the bottom of the inner rocker and the rocker box and jacked to see what happens. It moves alot so I will jack it up evenly all across the bottom so everything is lined up and re weld. Then Ill try fitting the rocker and see where I stand then. Thanks for pointing out the rocker box. Its very solid but when everything was removed it must have "sprung"

Re: k5 rocker fitment issues
If you look at the bottom of the bedside, you will see that the 90 degree piece is a separate piece that is spotwelded to the bottom of the bedside. Its whole purpose is to cover up the remainder of the rocker box, and give the impression that the rocker lip continues on, instead of stopping abruptly. If you can, jack the box up and fit the rocker panel back on before you weld anything. That way, you can still make adjustments. I didn't want to see you cut up your rocker panel! Those Tri-plus rockers usually look and fit better than the NOS ones I have used.

Re: k5 rocker fitment issues
I am having the same problem but not nearly as bad I am on my 3rd rocker panel, your rocker box definitely needs to come up alot.

Re: k5 rocker fitment issues
I figured out the problem. I tried jacking the rocker box up and the rear wouldnt jack up flush with the inner rocker. I had the rear wheel off so I climbed in there to see (as I have the end cap off to work) and could see the repop rocker box reinforcement plate flange was sitting flush on the rocker box pushing the box down. I removed the reinforcement panel, trimmed approx 1/2" off the bottom of the flange that bolts against the rear pillar area. I put the reinforcement back in and voila...rocker box sits flush like it should! Put the rocker on for a test fit and its pretty good. Sucks in a bit at the rear but the rest seems good. Hopefully this week I'll have time to hang the door...fit and weld.
