Starter issues
So I replaced the starter on my 70 c10 with a 383 stroker motor. The starter I replaced would spin but nit engadge with the flywheel. I replaced it with a new starter and it is doing the same thing. This is a stock style starter not a high torque. Any ideas as to what it could be or that I need to do??? Thanks for the help.

Is it shimmed, in the right holes, right tooth count for flywheel? It should engage if so and new. You bench test the starters before install? Does it make a screaching sound or just spins silently so to speak.

Make sure you use the brace that goes on front of starter to block ,cured my problem same starter for 5 yrs. And it Helps to get a quality starter

So not in alignment then. It'll make that sound when it's either partially loose or not in proper alignment. Does it bolt bottom up or side mount? Lots of aftermarket starters have 2 sets of bolt holes for bottom up mounting so confirm you have it bolted in right. Next would be make sure it's actually inline with the flywheel. May need to shim it or take shims out if you have some in. Trial and error but it's pretty simple at least. Just a pain taking it off each time lol

It's possible to have a starter that needs more shims on one bolt than the other. Ask me how I know
