Fender Badges

Anyone know if the fender badges/cab badges are made of metal or plastic?
Are they chromed and then painted?
Im talking about in my case the "scottsdale" & "trailering special" badges.

Re: Fender Badges

The ones on my c30 fenders were plastic. Rather than removing fender to get to the stud nuts so that I could remove emblem for painting I stuck a putty knife behind the emblem and tapped it with a hammer to cut the studs off. After painting I used 3M tape to put them back on.

Re: Fender Badges

I think the fender badges on my 75 were metal. May depend on year of manufacture.

Re: Fender Badges

Guess it would help if i would have mentioned the year, I have a 79 K30.
I got the trailering special badges off but having trouble with the fender badges, to me they feel like metal (because of the weight) but the reason im wanting to know is because im trying to determine how to refinish them.

Yes, it does depend on the year. I believe the fender badges changed to plastic starting in 1981. Earlier years were metal.

Re: Fender Badges

73 to 80 = metal also bolted on with cast in studs and nuts
81 to 87 = plastic

Re: Fender Badges

I am now confident in saying that mine are metal, but do not have nuts on the back of them.

Re: Fender Badges

If you've got the plastic ones and the tabs are broke off that you use to cinch them down, just use that green and plaid 3M double sided tape. Well the tape is off white, but the part you peel off is green plaid and white.

Mine has been on there for a couple years now and its still doing just fine. That stuff hardens into some kind of impenetrable bond lol

If you do that, you can get ones a lot cheaper off ebay cause the tabs are broke off.
