Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
That sucks. I guess i worded that wrong, i didn't mean red headed step child but more just, a replacement. Anyway, i have just dealt with that myself where i have gotten a vehicle to replace the one that got away and it never felt the same. No matter how "superior" the new one was, it still didnt have the same feeling that i got from the original. But it was still fun! Anyways, ok, i'll stop talking now.

Any updates on your truck? You were one of the inspirations for me to buy my 90 crew!

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
I ended up just selling the truck to a member in Saskatchewan, Canada. He flew down and drove it home about three weeks ago. I just couldn't finish the truck and for the time being, with school I had to put other expenses ahead of the truck. I live credit debt free and was having trouble even paying for fuel for the truck so I decided it needed to go.

Not sure, but it would be nice to see the progress of the project documented somewhere!

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
Hello Everyone,
I'm the guy who bought this truck. I did indeed fly down to Reno, and drive it back to Saskatchewan last December. The truck drove like a champ all the way back, even though we were experiencing quite the cold snap! As the temperature approached -30F the engine and tranny temps dropped below 90F. I ended up having to make a quick cold front out of a piece of foam board in a Wal mart parking lot, to prevent freezing my ass off! I haven't done anything with the truck just yet. I have to build a shop first before I invest the money into a paint job. I have bought a complete wrecked 06 Duramax from a buddy of mine. The engine and transmission was built up in this truck to support around 600hp not long before he wrecked it. This drivetrain will eventually find it's way into the truck, but that is a few years away from happening. As for now, it's just my "Fancy Redneck truck" and sees limited summertime use. I'll keep this thread posted on any progress I make. Cheers, Carl

Carl,
Thanks for updating this post and updating us. Are you going to paint it as designed by the PO or are you going to surprise us? Thanks!

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
I haven't decided yet, I'll either paint it like the renderings shown in this thread, or I might do a complete stock looking paint job, with factory trim and everything.
These trucks are old enough now, that they don't need a flashy paint job to stand out. The interior has already been so tastefully upgraded, without straying far from the original design. I really like all the work, and attention to detail that has already been put into this truck, however anyone who isn't familiar with square body trucks wont notice all the subtle upgrades in the interior, instead they'll just think it's an old truck that's been well taken care of. I think I want to continue on with that kind of theme on outside as well. This is the type of stock two tone paint job I'd like to go for, I'm just not sure I'll be able to find exterior colors that will look as great, while still matching the brown and tan, of the interior.

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
Two tone is almost a must with a crew long bed.
Blue wouldn't work with that gorgeous interior... Too bad because that blue and white truck looks great. That '70s style white secondary color position looks better than the factory '80s below the trim to the rockers secondary color. The narrow stripe offsets the white but pulls it together like the '70s up level trim did. Maybe... Red with Cream or White Dark Hunt Club Red Metallic (burgundy) like the 1995 GMC with Cream or White. Light Brown and White or Cream. Dark Metallic Brown and White a 1985 factory color combo. Dark Metallic Brown and Cream is period correct too my 85 C10 was that combo but the 2 tone roof probably wouldn't work on a crew. Anything in reds, white, cream, tan, and browns would look good. More ideas here. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=558524

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
Thanks for the ideas, and suggestions!
I just thought I'd repost, the original paint plans for this truck. I really can't go wrong painting the truck like this. Luckily I got a couple years to decide what to do, and I'm open to any suggestions!

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
Thanks for keeping the thread up on this build Carl!!!
The original rendering looks great... if you want something more OEM, why not white as the main color and do the brown as the stripe in the middle but painted like the white and blue truck... (make sense???) So the blue in white and the white in brown.... That could look really good too!

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
Subscribed. This truck needs to be painted like the Fall Guy truck from the 80's TV show.
