Synthetic rope
Is it okay to switch an old winch that was designed for wire cable to one of the newer synthetic ropes? Pros vs Cons. Which rope is best in your opinion? Bruce

Re: Synthetic rope
I did some synthetic on my winch on my jd gator, I plow with it so I took it off and never got around to putting it back on. I liked it when I had it on. It doesn't cut your hands when it frays like cable. I sold it to a buddy though. He uses it on a trailer winch now

Re: Synthetic rope
You have to change your winch fairlead out for one for the synthetic rope. The synthetic rope is safer when it breaks it just falls where a steel cable will shoot off. With the synthetic rope you gotta keep the winch covered the sun can damage the rope over time. The synthetic rope you gotta watch it around rocks and sharp edges it can cut the rope. But most synthetic ropes have a sliding sleeve on it so long that you can slide up and down the rope where you need the extra protect.

Re: Synthetic rope
yep, everything these guys said, but to add; check your drum for burrs or rough edges and sand those down smooth. otherwise spool on the rope.
