I went to put my new spare tire in the old carrier at the rear of the frame last night. Turns out that the wheel will not fit, it is a 15x8 wheel with a 23575r15 tire, it is too wide. I could cut those long bolts and add a piece in , or buy new, longer ones to make the carrier fit. OR... I could buy a cable type carrier off a newwer truck. Anyone done this, or have better ideas???

I had to do some real fabricating to get mine squeezed in just between the housings of my cell phone. I don't drive mine for my daily driver so I don't carry a spare tire.

Put it in the bed under a some sort of cover. Arizona sun will rot it in a week.

And run a cable through it

I have a 235/75R15 spare hanging under mine. Used the tire carrier off of an early 90's Dodge pickup (that had 15" rims). I shortened the carrier ~4", drilled only 1 hole in the carrier and used existing holes in the frame.

I am now running 255/70R15 tires, still with the 235/75 spare, they are really close on being the same size so since I don't have a locker, I will get away with it.

So, what I'm saying is, get a longer bolt and stick that tire back under there. I just hope your truk is stock height! My springs are sagging a little bit (I'm guessing ~2") I just hope I don't have a flat on the rear while I'm carrying a load, or it will be quite the fight to get that tire from under there, just isn't enough room. Keep that in mind... Good luck

I have my spare mounted on the left side behind the back glass inside the bed. Can't put it under the bed since that is where the blazer fuel tank is. Not enough room for both the tire and the tank.

I have my 16" 8 bolt 3/4 ton wheel under my bed, the thing weighs about 60 pounds. Sure beats having it in the bed.

I'm using a rear Blazer gas tank so don't have room for a spare. Plan on keeping a 12V compressor and a bottle of Slime where the cab gas tank was.

Mine lays in the bed too, and tends to slam into my tailgate when i mash the throttle, and slam into my toolbox when i slam the brakes

Im working on my spare tire setup right now. I just ordered a new "retainer" for my setup. I soaked it in muratic acid, and it turned the plastic into mush. It will be mounted in the original location, i got ahold of an original rim.

Under the bed, I had trouble with my spare being too wide, so I took some threaded rod and cut it longer than the older one, bent it up like I needed it to stay in the hole on the frame, ran a nut all the way up with a washer to hold it in place.bingo bango....luckily the rod was the same thread size as the original rod, and the thing that holds the spare up went on no probs.

Can't remember where or when but one of the neatest spare tire holders i've seen was when a guy took a spare "bucket---where the spare sits in a burb" and mounted it into the floor between the drivers side rear wheel tub and the front of the bed. Now he did have to cut some of the bed floor out and perhaps part of a bed floor support but----the spare tire sat in there low enough that the top was below the top of the bedside. REally neat setup. Not sure if that would work with a SWB but no problem with a LWB. Of course you can always get a fleetside spare tire mounting bracket and bolt the spare to the bracket but then it's very visable so you would want to cable or chain it in as well.

. But when I get a set of ralley's, I'll use one of my chrome cheapies with an old tire as a spare. If that doesn't work.... I always have a cell phone and AAA

I dont carry a spare, I have a plug Kit and an air compressor. If its shreaded then I AAA it.

I have a plug kit in all me vehicles I find it easier and faster to just put a plug in it an air it up. I only use the spare on the other vehicles if a plug wont fix the problem.
