Probably a stupid question but how do I remove the intermediate shaft from the firewall?

What intermediate shaft? If you are talking the one piece from steering wheel to rag joint I think the whole column needs to come out. Its been awhile but some bolts on forward face of firewall and a couple holding the column up from inside?

I was hoping it was removable from the fire wall to the box. From your answer it sounds like it don't.

If it has been modified to a collapsible shaft maybe it can be separated.

No it has been made into a collapsible shaft yet. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to make it into a collapsible shaft.

is there a squeeze clamp or clamp with a through bolt at the bottom of the column? if so it probably comes apart. if not, its likely a one piece shaft all the way to the steering wheel. I have seen guys cut the solid 1" bar and grind flats into it, making it a 1" double d, and use a double d adapter to a new collapsible shaft.

edit: or do it this way, just posted and is great stuff
