Re: wiper towers

awe come on guys
anybody ever take the wiper shafts apart?

recently i had too pull my cluster too finish some wiring and install a wiper motor seal(a part i kinda forgot about).
i figured now is the time for lube on all the wiper parts (lithium grease) the ball sockets were all easy too lube up but the shafts sticking through the cowl that another story.I really dont wanna booger them up.
but i cant figure on how too lube 'em up without dunkin them in oil(messy and dont last).
it seems the shafts are pretty well sealed up.
as of now i dont have the cowl or wiper arms installed so i figure i should take care of the ps awhile. it is groaning on the down stroke.

i did a search and perhaps i didnt use the right key words but i more or less come up with the wiper ball sockets being lubed questions.

any help out there? how did you do it?

Re: wiper towers

I know exactly what your talking about. My wipers were completely rusted and wouldn't move at all. I had a pair off a truck I parted out sitting on the shelf and swap the wiper linkage assembly out. Prior to putting the linkage back in I used PB blaster to loosen them up real good and then stuck the swivel parts in a can of bearing grease and loaded each one like I was packing wheel bearing. I'm not sure if any grease got into the area because there is absolutely no clear opening to put the grease into.

Re: wiper towers

I'd have to say, if you aren't going to replace them, penitrating oil is a start. Once you get them free, you can try to pack them with lithium grease much like wheel bearings, just like sduckworth13 suggested. You'd want to remove as much as you could so it doesn't heat up and drip out on your cowl and down into your fresh air vents.

Re: wiper towers

takeing a break in between sanding sessions last nite i poked around and noticed there is a plastic sleeve/seal on the shafts.
i didnt notice that before(cause they are painted) i'll have too poke around some more with them.

mine are not siezed at all just a lil' noisey and its not the linkages. i shoulda address this issue before hand.

heres some pics the ds seems quite the ps is the noisy one but i'd like too lube'm both
