Is it running the original cooling system that was for the small block? If so, perhaps you are right on it not being up for the big block.
Congrats on the purchase! I was eyeing that on CL for a couple weeks, wondering what parts I could likely, successfully, get off of it.  It is a cool ride and definitely one to envy once complete.
