Of all the dumb things (a P.O. rant)

Ugh.

I really didn't want to pull the motor out of my truck. I have some oil leaks to address, and just about everything I want to do to the motor, including replacing the solid lifter cam, can be done with the engine in the truck.

What can't be fixed with the engine in the truck are the broken/striped bell housing to block bolts. I didn't realize it when I did the clutch last year, but I only have three of the six bolts in there. Of the three available holes, two seem to have something in the block (like a broken bolt) and the third one is open, but I can't start a bolt or a tap.with half the needed bolts I'm getting movement in the gearbox when I push in the clutch and there's an intermittent shake in the drivetrain. Without access to get to the broken bolts and the hole that needs to bet tapped, the motor is going to have to come out, so I might as well put it on the stand to do all the other work.

Like I said, ugh.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. I guess thats the only problem with buying trucks as old as ours. They have been worked on by so many people at this point all kinds of crazy things happen along the way.

I've owned my truck for several years, and I'm still dealing with poor work done on the truck by previous owners. It's like once you think you nailed them all down, another thing pops up ... grrrr.

Re: Of all the dumb things (a P.O. rant)

oh man do i know your P.O Pains lol .. i want to slap the hell out of the P.O that had my truck here is how bad he was to her . he wanted to put in a newer stereo so he cut a hole for it .. problem is that he cut the hole to long and to skinny that's in the original radio spot .. so what dose he do then ? well pull out the ashtray and cut a new stereo hole of course .. which is even better because now the stereo don't fit flush against the metal dash because it hits the windshield wiper motor lol ... now it gets worse ...keep in mind this will not be the worst of it yet either . ok so this moron says hmmm ide like to put in some aftermarket gauges 1st of he buys the lil tinny gauges at Walmart ! you know the ones that are like the size of a quarter >.< ok dumb but ok .. now this set of said gauges comes with a triple mounting bezel for under the dash but dose he use it ? NOPE ! lol he figures ill just drill 3 holes in the dash panel next to the glove box and mount them in that and that's the one that don't come out and can buy again lol .. next the worst and most dumb of all .... i don't know what he was working on in the doors but he dropped his tool in the door and as we all know its a pretty tight fit in there if you manage to get your arm in you may come back out with a nub lol . so can you guess what this jerk did to get his tool back ? yup he cut a hole in the bottom of the doors about a 5 1/2 inch rectangular hole to get said tool and yes i said doors as in this nitwit did it twice lol .. i firmly believe i saved this poor truck she was being killed slowly ... i have since fixed the org spot metal for the radio to fit a new single Din head unit and and gonna fab up a nice aluminum piece for 3 Autometer 2 5/8s gauges and im gonna fab up a piece of aluminum to fit inside the recessed part of the panel next to the glove box for a old style clock maybe ... its all i can come up with to fix her best i can with very little money and no knowledge on how to weld or even a welder .. but i think she will look 100 times better when done ... doors im gonna have to replace so see i feel your P.O Pain lol but just know that your fixing your baby and it will be one less thing your wondering about when your driving down the road happy trucking

Except...you can't hang it on an engine stand until the bell housing bolts are fixed...

I can rest it on something while I take care of that. But at that point it's out and I might as well do the rest of the work on the stand, including cleaning and painting, which I wasn't going to bother with otherwise.
