speedway wiring harness

I recently bought the speedway 20 circuit universal wiring harness. For the price with shipping is less than 200 and I am very pleased with it so far. The only thing I've noticed that it doesn't come with in the wiring is a reverse light circuit but there is plenty of extra circuits to use for it. I figure I would pass this info along for others that were thinking about it.

I have some questions about the harness. What type of connectors are used inside the engine compartment that connect to the fuse panel? Are they similar to what is on the factory wiring?

The wires have to be run through the firewall. You could probably use the original connector for the front harness or use a weather pack or military connector. I chose not to. I used a pcv grommet to route everything to the front and tucked all the dash stuff behind the fuse block and routed them up. I'll probably go back after I'm done and satisfied and put a weather pack in to make it easier.

My wiring was in such bad shape and couldn't afford the painless or autowire kits. I hadn't seen where anyone else used it, so I took a gamble on it.

I used one on an old Dodge truck we restored. It worked real good. You have to cut the wires to proper length. It was time consuming.

Yeah it is time consuming, but I enjoy wiring. I'm one of the weird ones

Yep, I bought the same one myself. I used the firewall side of the existing fuse block to wire all my engine/light harness connections to keep it looking original under the hood, but the ATO/blade type fuses block allows for much easier updates and flexibility to add things later-heated seats, electric fans, electric fuel pump, etc.... very well labeled and good instructions too!

I'm glad that you can use the firewall side of the existing fuse block with this kit. I replaced the engine harness and headlight harness on my Burb already because they were shot and at the time I needed to have it running so I couldn't rewire the whole Burb.

Yeah, I had to make an "Adapter plate to mount the new block to the firewall side half, but the kit has enough connectors in it to pretty much finish the job. I have my cab out for paint, so I haven't fitted it yet, but don't anticipate any issues with it mounting up.

Did any of you guys have a problem with the neutral safety switch not working after install? Mine worked great before but now it's intermittent. It's no biggie, I have it jumpered right now.

I checked and double checked all my terminations, but have yet to install it in the truck, so I can't verify that just yet...sorry.

Just my 2cents a local world wide resto shop is now NOT using painless---cost and issues---they now make their own at the shop.
