Dash bezel question
I am having trouble finding pics of trucks with the same dash bezel as Shawnas 58. Even other 58's have different ones in them. The majority of them look are this shape
ANd hers looks like this What years or models came with her kind of bezel??

looks like custom faceplate job on a GMC. someone correct me if wrong, but i do believe the 58,59 GMC's used different bezel, like the one shown but not aluminum.

The top V shaped, 1 piece instrument cluster is Chevrolet.
The lower rectanglar shaped, 2 piece cluster is GMC. |

Dubie,
ShamrockCustoms is correct. The GMC's had a different dash than the Chevys. The 55 second series through 59 GMC's had the type that matches Shawna's truck. |

This is an example of the deluxe gauge cluster for your 58.

I'm hating the nasty ass gold color he put on mine, Plus the numbers on the speedo look like they're curling up/peeling off! I wanna take it out and redo it..see what I can come up with!! I like the one you showed to Denny!

I see that reproduction GMC dash panel bezels are available. Check out www.1955gmc.com. There's a guy listed who fabricates them up for 55-58 GMC's. I don't know how good they are, or how much he charges for them.
Does anyone have additional info on this? |

hmmmm... that would be a cool piece to fab. one-piece aluminum dash face, gmc-style, with Autometer guages (or others). if only i had a template, that would be a fun project!

Dubie , GMC 55-59 had the same dash with round gauges, Chevy 55-59 had the v cluster dash, I bought a 55 GMC with this dash in it ...I cut the whole dash out and installed it in a better 59 chevy cab,, I really like the round gauges,, you can buy round gauges to replace the old one,, however i came across a few dashes since and took the best of all to make one nice one,, the flat tin insert on mine was out of a custom cab and had been chrome plated with Horz, lines in it like Denny B's post above,, the chrome was badly pitted so I laminated some Zebra wood veneer to the panels and put them back in the bezel,,, I was lucky the Chrome rings were not only chrome but they were not pitted.. Most ive seen since are gray plastic the chrome ones only came on the custom cab,,, I reused them after some polishing,, with imagination Dubie you can do what ever your heart desires,,, almost anything is better than the stock silver painted insert panels..

55-59 Dash Panel Insets
Dubie,
I sell a beautiful reproduction of the two GMC dash insets that are the custom dash panels for 55-59 GMC instrument panel. I believe, that there were at least three variations of these dash insets. One is a bronze colored aluminum panel. There is also a black or dark grey aluminum panel and third, there is a polished stainless steel panel that has some "etched" squares on the face. (The one that Denny B is showing on his post is like the SS panel I am describing). I too am using a 58 GMC cab with 57 Chevy hood, fenders and grille. Like the others said above, I like the round guages. My plan is to use SW or Moon Eyes 3-1/2" gauges e.g. 160 MPH Speedo, a 9,000 RPM Tachometer, with 2-1/16" water temp, fuel, oil pressure, and amp guages. Can't beat the look. My two cents worth, rico www.ricos-rods-and relics.com

Tilt Wheel location
Dubie,
A quick question, is that Pontiac/Olds tilt wheel cramp you in the drivers seat? It seems awful close to the driver and a long ways out from the dash? rico_bob

There's surprisingly a lot of room still. It's gonna be gone eventually tho! I'd love to get tilt steering in it... just cause I hate the angle it sits at...it feels like I'm driving a bus!

I'm 6' 1" and there is still a lot of room in there. But I would like to swap it out for a tilt column. The previous owner built a new column bracket for that Malibu column and the bracket is huge!! Driving it is the same feeling as driving a bus as Shawna said. But for the few minutes I drove it, it was so cool!!
