I replaced the Points with electronic ignition and am currently using a $20 Coil from napa and was wondering if I need something better. Charging system is messing up, The regulator is brand new and Generator was fixed, but the idiot light with come on sometimes and then disappear.

Re: Best coil for Petronix
speed up the idle 50 RPM and see if that solves the flashing light issue. The generators don't put out much compared to an alternator. If RPM drops too low at idle the charge voltage will go below the battery voltage and the light comes on.
I don't think your Pertronix is involved in this, but it could be if you accidentally changed the base timing swapping out the points. If the timing is retarded the idle speed will drop too low. |

Re: Best coil for Petronix
I use the performance coil from Petronics. It works good but I accidently left the key on overnight when I was doing some testing & it blew the coil wide open.
