Just Letting You Know-ebay Tachs

well the tach issue is stirring up again and because this still seems to be a diserable option( a 5,000 RPM limit is useless to me ) . there are a lot of new guys here and they need to look at this post.

after your eyes go bad from reading that, here's the dope so you know I'm not blowing smoke. It's been a while since i went hunting on ebay for these tachs. I have 5 different searches I use for ebay tachs. 2 days ago I found 10 of them. 2 were so crappy i didn't bother with them. I sent out 8 of my generic letters asking them to test the tachs and how they are more than likeley bad. Today i got back one thank you letter and he said it was bad so he is changing or pulling the listing. I got back one that said ,"advertised AS IS"' . a typical reply ,but that don't make it good. and one guy says ,"advertised untested". ,but that don't make it good either. the other 5 have chosen not to comment so far. SAVE YOUR MONEY GUYS or do a custom dash like Swervins. he has a wonderful 'HOW TO' .at his website.
Yep , I still sell one or two a year on ebay that are all redone and get decent money for them ,( I don't take requests), But i will NEVER recoup the money i have outlayed on them. Period. DAVE

When I used to own a 5 spd 4 cyl. sports car, I drove "by" the tach and not the speedometer. When I purchased a motorcycle it drove me nuts that it didn't have a tach or gear indicator. I have 3 automatic vehicles with tachs and I forget they are even there. I guess in racing applications they are useful, but in commute vehicles, I think tachs in automatics don't have very much use. I like my working clock in my 87 Silverado and will never replace it with a working tach. I also like my fuel guage visible. FWIW

Dave, I'm just curious. What is a good way to bench test a tach? Or are you asking these guys to hook them up to a running engine's distributor?
