63 heater core

Has anybody in here had any problems finding a heater core for their 63 chevies? The parts catalogs list 2 and neither of htem worked in my truck. Out of frustration i went to the local NAPA and went through about 50 heater cores before i found one out of a 73 ford pickup that i was able to modify, My truck is becoming more ford everyday.... first the ford 9 inch and now the heater core.

heater core

I got mine from Bumper to Bumper auto parts in Fort Smith while I was in Arkansas in December. I could not find one in Texas where I live. Mine was out, but I did not need it down here. It was cold up there. The phone number is 479-783-6088. They had it picked up from thier wherehouse in Tulsa, Ok for me. The price was 45.00. You need to measure it. My truck took the shorter 71/2 long one. Every stocks the longer 9 1/4 inch one. Its real easy to remove the old heater core and install the new one.

I had the same issue with my 63 witht he deluxe heater package... I sent for two heater cores from LMC and brothers and the cor ewould fit, BUT neither came with the cable opreated actuator valve on them like my stock one had... then i ordered whatthe called the valve and it was totally different... I was fortunate to find a working one out of a junk 60, but i would have liked to go new... so what is it.. did you guys find EXACT replacements with the valve???? or is it just the core with inlet and outlet tubes...
thanks,
Mike

We had the same problem for our '61 GMC 4000 series (uses the same heater box - deluxe version). The units from NAPA did not fit and we couldn't seem to get one with the temp valve. We ended up finding a used unit in a wrecking yard.
