motor mounts for 383 stroker
So I just pulled the 350 out of the truck. I'm going to put a 383 I just built in it. Questions, my motor mounts are shot out on the old engine. Should I buy OEM ones (like from LMC) or is there a aftermarket set-up I should run with?

Re: motor mounts for 383 stroker
I believe energy suspension makes polyurethane mounts.
Unless you are going to be abusing the truck I would go down to the parts store and get stock replacements |

I'm not going to abuse it, but she has 425 horse, so I'm gonna let everyone know about it.

Re: motor mounts for 383 stroker
The stock parts store mounts (anchor brand) are poor quality in regards to fitment. I remember reading there was a recall on the original motor mounts, which required an added chain in case the drivers side broke. A better design would be the clamshell or car style (which require aftermarket engine stands).

Re: motor mounts for 383 stroker
Energy suspension has the polyurethane mounts you will need for that 383. Available from either Jegs or Summit Racing. You can try the OEM rubber ones but they will likely tear as they don't like the torque that motor will make.

Re: motor mounts for 383 stroker
I had stock mounts on a 71 that had a 406 small block that ran high 12's. I broke the drive shaft, a couple of transmissions and a differential but never the mounts.

Re: motor mounts for 383 stroker
I would like to add that I have a 69 c20 with stock small block mounts on a 396 and no issues.

Re: motor mounts for 383 stroker
The photo above is a car type mount, not truck. IMO, if I was going to install a high horsepower engine and wasnt worried about originality, i wod go with the 73 up modern captured mounts. This would require new sbc stands and possibly some fabrication (holes drilled in frame. Otherwise I would go with polyurethane mounts for the stock 67-72 type.

Re: motor mounts for 383 stroker
I have a slightly larger and more powerful engine in my 67 that went through two sets of OEM mounts before I switched to polyurethane and ended that problem. This truck ran in the mid 11's until I tubbed it to got enough rubber under it. Then it brokr 10.99 and I got banned for no roll cage. Go figure.
