Finally unblocked...

I've been putting this off for about 3-4 months now I'm sure. The repro dash pad was the wrong color (it's light blue like the door panels, should be dark blue like the dash - and the original was). And I dropped an AC vent and found an NOS defrost vent in brown, so had to do another batch of interior painting.

I'm not a painter. And it's really time-consuming:

1) The clean/scrub pass with a special treated sponge
2) The adhesion promoter strep
3) DP90LF light coat
4) DP90LF wet coat
5) Clean gun
6) DBI Dk Blu Poly light coat
7) DBI Dk Blu Poly medium coat
8) Clean gun
9) DCU 2060 Flexed'n'Flat eggshell clear light coat
10) clear medium coat
11) Clean gun
12) Change water filter on air supply (should have been 1, oops)

I was worried I'd lose the grain with that many coats, because you can technically skip the primer (I think) but it turned out not to be an issue.

But it turned out nice. Now I can get to work. I've got the dash to go back in, the new tilt column, and the seats.

LOVE that blue. My close 2nd choice when painting my truck. Next time it will definitely be that blue.

Looks really nice Dave. I have a hard time being patient when I paint, I'm too anxious to put the next coat on.

I don't know if we have any painters on board, but I have a quick PPG question. A year or so ago I had added reducer to the base coat, not needed all of it, and put it back into the empty can.

In other words, I just reduced what's in the can with the right amount of reducer.

This doesn't seem to have hurt the paint. It says DBI has "no pot life" but does that mean it lasts forever? I assumed the opposite, but it still looks just fine.

I didn't want to risk using it, which meant I had to pony up another $158 for a pint of fresh paint!

Parts look good....

I just painted the same parts for the Panel truck and here is how I did mine….Scrub with soap & water and stiff brush. Rinse with clear water and let dry. Wipe down with Isopropyl Alcohol and Paint with 2 light coats of SEM Maroon vinyl paint…. Done.

I have used this same method for 2 other sets of interior plastic/vinyl parts and haven’t had any problems. No guns to clean, no paint to mix… I know it depends on whether you are matching existing paint or painting everything new like I did.

Just another perspective.

No. I think that's his garage floor. Probably nicer than his laundry room... certainly nicer than my laundry room, and I hardly have room to work in my garage !

I think you made the right choice buying fresh paint, especially on something flexy. It may have been fine. But what a nightmare if not. You could strip and repaint steel, but not so much with those pieces
