What Frame is This?

Hey guys!

I have a '53 Chevy 5-Window truck that the previous owner swapped frames on. He was an elderly man, who I'm sad to say died of cancer not 2 weeks after I purchased the truck from him. With him went a lot of the details on what mods he did to the truck. When I asked his son if he had any idea what the donor frame was, all he could say was "I don't really know, I think it might have been a '79 C10?" Not exactly helpful.

So here I am! I crawled under the truck and took these pics of the side of the frame, is there any way I can get any info off of these, or am I going to have to suck it up and somehow get the VIN stamp off the top frame rail?

This is what it says:

(S) 8 169
14007646

Thanks for the help in advanced!

Re: What Frame is This?

I'm thinking it's a 73-80 frame based on the 12 bolt rear end. In fact, I think the 12 bolt disappeared a bit before 80.

Re: What Frame is This?

Looks just like my C-10 front end and frame on my 83 and my 90 suburban.
Suburbans used same stuff until 91, trucks ended at 87. I would say it could be a 79 C-10. But the oil or trans pan is very odd looking to me.
Another post I read said, 14007646 8 223 was a right hand frame member from a 78.
Hope it helps. Good Luck.

The tranny is supposedly a '95 S-10 5 speed, so it looks a little out of the ordinary on a 70's frame

I can get a mirror and crawl under it with a flashlight and try to get a frame VIN. Anyone know where the frame VIN should be stamped on a late 70's C10 frame?

My 73 is behind the steering box on the top of the rail

Re: What Frame is This?

Its a C10 truck frame. The suburbans and blazers do not have the small cross member that is behind the 12 bolt rear end.

They lingered on a while longer, my '81 came with a 12-bolt.
