Oil Filter Won't Stay Tight?
Never had this problem before but on our '99 Tahoe 4x4 (5.7L) I used a Purolater oil filter last time I changed oil. Have always used Wix filters before but just went with the Purolater since store was out of the Wix 51036 I normally use. Think the Purolater was a PF52. After changing the oil I noticed within a couple days a small half dollar sized spot of oil under the Tahoe. Doesn't leak oil so crawled under the Tahoe, wiped down the oil and noticed a oil drip at the filter. Wiped the filter down clean and dry and tightened again by hand as I always do. Got a maybe 1/4 turn, strange, maybe did not get it tight when I changed oil? Got home yesterday after a 500 mile round trip, my youngest son and his fiance were married over the weekend. This morning another spot of oil under the Tahoe. Same damn ting, Purolater filter was loose by 1/4 turn or so ! Never had this occur with the Wix filters. Tightened the filter again, coming up close on 3,000 mile oil change again. You can bet there won't be another Purolater filter being used. Just wondering if anyone has ever had this happen to them using the Purolater filters? Sorry for the long post but needed some explaining and background to get to the question.

Re: Oil Filter Won't Stay Tight?
Last time you changed the filter, did you make sure the old gasket came off ? I've seen them get doubled up and leak when the old one sticks.

Re: Oil Filter Won't Stay Tight?
May be a AC/Delco filter, just not sure why it will not stay tight to the filter housing on the engine. When I change oil and filter I always clean the mating surface. The oil filter has the rubber gasket mounted to the surface and the engine mating surface is smooth flat aluminum with no indention for a rubber seal to stick to. Have had to tighten the filter three times, first initail mounting and again twice snice then after noticing small leakage amount ? ?
