If possible, post some before and after pictures of your blue belts before dying them black, and after.

Re: Seat Belt Buckle Cover Removal

OK I just took my belts apart, dyed them and painted the brackets and plastic stuff.

So how the hell do I reroll the retractor? Ive been sitting here on the couch for 45 minutes fiddleing with it and its not making sense

sorry for the thread necro.

I used RIT and did it 2x. Once with the adding salt method and then the adding vinager method. Used the washing machine. I used the liquid with the salt and powder with the vinager. Black dye on black belts.
They came out well except for the spots where I got to much bleach on the belts and the dye doesnt seem to want to stick in some places and looks a little purpleish.

Re: Seat Belt Buckle Cover Removal

Sorry I can't help you. I never took mine apart, and I failed at dying them too.

Re: Seat Belt Buckle Cover Removal

pffft, well i destroyed the spring in one of them by over tightening I guess. So that side is no longer a retracting belt lol. I gave up for the week on the other side. I'm a couple months from actually needing them so I'll try again later.
Or I may just go with 3 points.

Re: Seat Belt Buckle Cover Removal

I have the same issue.
My dye job turned out great!
But, I can't get the retractors to rewind correctly.
One of the springs broke while I probably over tightened.
I guess I'll be one of those guys with the belt hanging out the door bottom.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. As a teacher and it being the end of the year, and my wife is already two days overdue in having our new little baby girl, I don't have much time for any hobbies or internet lately. I will dig out my set of belts, take them apart, and do a write up on reinstalling the retracting coil springs. I will post a link in this thread when I do. I will say that one must remember that the retracting coil spring retainer is made out of plastic that is 40+ year old. It needs to be wound tight enough to pull the belt all the way back into the retractor, but not too much as is will crack the plastic retainer or bust the metal spring.
Give me a day or two guys.
