Re: Fawn interior color recipe wanted
My truck is way down on restoration quality but I've found a Nissan Dupli-color that I think is pretty close and will suffice for mine. CBNS0593 Sunlit Sand.

Re: Fawn interior color recipe wanted
I used a Toyota color that looked pretty close. It's PPG Omni MAE5653 D Desert Sand. My paint shop gave me some flattening agent to add myself. They were afraid of overdoing it. I used 16oz of paint, 2oz hardener, 2oz reducer and 1oz of flattening agent. I used a cheap siphon feed gun at 50 psi.

Re: Fawn interior color recipe wanted
I'm gonna brag about a truck that a forum member theastronaut did a few years back. Here's the link. The quality will blow you away.
He's really got an eye for detail and I think his interior color is perfect. Also read his comments in THIS THREAD. Here's his recipe for matching the fawn interior. Paint code match is 2003 Nissan sunlit sand, code EVO-29003 sprayed with 50% reducer and 15% hardener. Don't buff it, it's supposed to be dull. I used base coat with clear coat hardener added in. Reduced the base 50%, then added 15% hardener. That way it's dull like the factory paint and still holds up pretty well.

Re: Fawn interior color recipe wanted
TCP Global still sells lacquer. I think they are based in San Diego. Kind of ironic they can't sell it in the state it originates.

Re: Fawn interior color recipe wanted
I've always wondered how much difference there was/is between factory fresh paint and original but weathered paint. Also, how big a difference there was between different plants and paint batches.
First up - theastronaut, that truck looks AMAZING !!! I've seen different shades of fawn interiors freshly painted. Different brands used, application (as in spray can vs gun), etc. I've not seen many "original" factory paint interiors. Here is my friends truck, 1966 C10 that is, as far as "I" can tell, has not been repainted on the interior but is weathered over the years. I know cameras, lights, angles, and monitors will all affect the shades too. Here is the only fawn color left on my old truck that hasn't had the best TLC over the years. Pay no attention to the white, it's getting repainted eventually ...

Re: Fawn interior color recipe wanted
This is where I went for mine. http://www.autocolorlibrary.com
I used 1963 Oldsmobile Sahara Mist 22121 and it looks great. It's a gloss but since mine is a 66 I used the flat dark fawn on the dash so glare isn't a problem. |
