My hometown service truck..

I usually do not buy anything because of sentimental value or based on emotional thoughts, but I had to have this one. It is a well optioned 71 Cheyenne that was the service truck for a local gas station when I was a kid and also while my son was growing up. Went and got it last night and really enjoyed visiting with the owner, we talked about all the different gas stations that were in town when i was young and my son was amazed. These trucks have helped re-connect in a small way with my son and that means so much to me. Anyways, enough of the Oprah show,, dig this cool truck. Thanks, Fred.

Re: My hometown service truck..

My son had never heard of a truck with a toolbox made into the bed. He was amazed by that. I have a few family commitments to deal with but I hope to have it unloaded and at least puttering around the neighborhood Monday.

Not really sure what we will do with it yet. It is going to be an all day job getting it cleaned out and giving it a Purple Power bath. I am NOT going to knock it in the head but there has been some interest in the bed rails and gun rack. It has a terrible fuel leak from a stripped outlet but that solution is sitting on the shelf at work, an oversized fuel inlet. I used to sell them like crazy back in the late 70's and early 80's.

And just so everyone knows, I am not a little short fellow. I am 6 feet tall, just look like a little guy standing next to my son. This pic really kind of put it into perspective. As the wife says, "That is our baby boy."

I usually don't buy on sentimental value, I just could not let this one end up at the crusher. We all know I will probably flip it, but at least it will still have a chance.

Wow! almost identical to the first truck that i ever owned - outright! I take the cowboy hat holder? Never own one of those, mark it off the bucket list.

Re: My hometown service truck..

Got the fuel leak fixed. The previous owner meant well, rebuilt the carb & put a new fuel pump on before I picked it up. His mechanic did not know the way to put the fuel inlet back on, stripped it right out. I sold a ton of these inlet repair fittings back in the late 70's thru the 80's so I knew exactly what to do.

Man, this has got to have a story. In the glove box, among other things, I found an empty bottle of Stetson cologne and a cassette of Ktel Disco Nights. Oh I love the night life, I got to boogie,,,,,
