reproduction steering wheel
Does anyone know of someone who makes a smaller reproduction steering wheel for a 71 C10? I was looking for something a little smaller than the original but what to stick to the stock look.

Re: reproduction steering wheel
That has been brought up before and is a good idea, but I've never seen one. Even the repro regular size ones aren't as stout as the originals.

Re: reproduction steering wheel
I wanted to do the same but I could not find one other than a 73 and up style which is slightly smaller so it is what I went with for now....I even got one from a 90 1500 in perfect condition so If I get tired of this one I can replace it....

Re: reproduction steering wheel
I have googled my brains out trying to find, but no luck. I thought someone may know of an off the beaten track supplier.

Re: reproduction steering wheel
I wanted the same thing... there is a guy who sells them for Tri-Fives and early Fords... he even has one for 50's Chevy trucks. I saw his display at the Pleasanton Goodguys Show. He said he would make one for $2500... hah, then he said the ones after that would be less, but he had to pay for the molds etc.
I am in the process of trying to make my own. I saw the one Chip Foose did on the Overhalin' truck, so it can be done. |

Re: reproduction steering wheel
I remember Chip Foose doing this on Overhauling on a 67 72 Chevrolet truck. It was a orange longbox and he cut the center section of the crossbar about 1 inch on each side and cut the grip area to make that smaller in diameter. Than epoxied back together and body worked it. It looked great.

Re: reproduction steering wheel
How about using the late 60's corvette/camaro 3 spoke wheel? I think it is 15 inches or so and is at least period correct.

Re: reproduction steering wheel
Hey - I like it, is it a leather wrap? Great suggestion.

Re: reproduction steering wheel
That wheel Foose did,is that a leather wrap?I have a perfect candidate for a diameter reduction...a fairly new repro with a seperation in the rim @ high noon.Buyers beware. It`s about an 1/8" seperation in a mint wheel. They use a much lighter gauge rod in these.Shoulda spent another buck on them to have an adequate replacement.

Re: reproduction steering wheel
There is a company in Australia called Pearlcraft that quoted me $600.00 to reduce diameter of a 68 style. Their work is very good from photos on their Web Site. But still too high for me, I am in process of reducing the Diameter myself, will post photos if it works out.

Re: reproduction steering wheel
I watched that overhaulin' show where Chip made that wheel. He made it look sooo easy!

Re: reproduction steering wheel
A bump of this topic to see if there has been any progress on getting these made in the last 6 years!

Re: reproduction steering wheel
Nothing off the the shelf, but many have been done by individuals. We do have one member doing a prototype and wanting to get into doing them. His name escapes me at the momoent
